This German soup has cabbage, carrots, bacon, beef broth, potato, onion, leek, and caraway seed.

INGREDIENTSCOOKWARE
  • 6 Red Potatoes
  • 1 Yellow Onion
  • 2 Carrots
  • 1 Leek (White Part Only)
  • 2 TBS. Chopped Parsley
  • 1 Lb. Cooked Bacon
  • ½ tsp. Caraway Seed
  • 1 C. Chopped Cabbage
  • 5 C. Beef Broth
  • Salt and Pepper to Taste
  • 1 Large Pot
  • 1 Large Frying Pan
  • Ladle
  • Dry measuring cups & spoons
  • Liquid measuring cup

 

 

 

 

 



Preparing Your German Potato Soup Recipe

  • Peel and chop one yellow onion, one cup of semi green cabbage, and the white part of a leek.
  • Peel and cube one red potato into ½ inch cubes and place them in a bowl of cold water so they don't get brown.
  • Peel and shred two carrots with a vegetable grater or a peeler.
  • Crumble one pound of cooked bacon and set it off to the side in a container.
  • Chop 2 tablespoons of fresh parsley and set it in a small bowl off to the side.


Cooking this Homemade Potato Soup Recipe.

  1. Melt one tablespoon of butter in the bottom of your pot on medium high heat.
  2. Add one chopped yellow onion, one chopped leek (white part only) and one cup of chopped semi green cabbage to the pot and saute for 5 - 7 minutes. Stirring Frequently.
  3. After 5 or 7 minutes of sauteing add five cups of cold beef broth to the large pot and turn the burner on high, when it starts to boil reduce the heat to medium so it simmers.
  4. Now add the six cubed potatoes, two shredded carrots, ½ teaspoon caraway seed, one pound crumbled bacon and two tablespoons of fresh chopped parsley, stir well and Simmer for 35 minutes.
  5. Taste test it and add salt and pepper to your liking if you think it needs it.

You can garnish it with chopped parsley or 2 sprigs of thyme, be creative.
