Ham and Bean Soup Recipe
"Hickory Style"

"Delicious & Aromatic Ham and Bean Soup Recipe".

Infused with a hickory smoke flavor and a touch of dried mustard to please the eyes, nose and tongue. This will tease you before it's done and please you when it's finished.
A bowl of hickory smoked ham and bean soup.

Ingredients

-1 Lb. bag Dry Great Northern Beans
-1 Celery Stalk, Chopped
-2 Carrots, Chopped
-2 Garlic Cloves, Minced
-1 Large Red Onion, Chopped
-1/4 C. Fresh Parsley, Chopped
-8 C. Water
-1 tsp. White Pepper
-1 Hickory Smoked Ham Hock
-2 tsp. Liquid Hickory Smoke Flavoring
-1 1/2 C. Cubed Ham
-3 Fresh Tomatoes, Diced
-1 tsp. Mustard Powder
-1 Bay Leaf

Preparing the Beans for your
Ham and Bean Soup Recipe.

  • First you will need to sort the beans, so grab a dark colored plate and put the beans on it picking out all the extra remnants like pebbles, shrubs etc., also pull out any cracked beans and throw them away.
  • Now add the beans left on the plate to a strainer or colander and rinse them.
  • There are lots of ways you can soak the beans but I will tell you 2.

  • 1. You can boil the beans for 2 minutes in a large pot with about 3 times more water then beans. Then turn the heat off and let them sit for 1 hour.
  • 2. Or you can just let the beans soak in the fridge overnight or at least 8 hours with 3 times more water then beans.
  • Rinse them after they are soaked.

Preparation for this Bean Soup Recipe.

  • Chop 1 celery stalk and 1 large red onion and put them in a container together and put them aside.
  • Mince 2 garlic cloves and put them in the same container.
  • Chop 2 carrots and 1/4 c. fresh parsley and put them in the same container but separate from above container.
  • Cube 1 1/2 c. ham and dice 3 fresh ripe tomatoes and place them and tomato juices in the container with the carrots.

  • Cooking your Ham and
    Bean Soup Recipe

  • After straining and rinsing the soaked beans I add them to my Lincoln Professional Series 9-qt. Stock Pot with 8 c. water, 1 ham hock, 1 bay leaf, 1 tsp dry mustard, 1 tsp white pepper and the container with the carrots, parsley, tomatoes and ham turn heat on medium and let them simmer for about 30 minutes. Stirring Occasionally.
  • After simmering for 30 minutes heat up a large frying pan on medium heat adding the minced garlic, chopped red onion, chopped celery and the 2 teaspoons of liquid hickory smoke flavoring to the frying pan and saute for 3 minutes.
  • After 3 minutes of sauteing add the contents of the frying pan to the pot and stir well. Simmer for 45 minutes. Stirring Occasionally.
  • Your Hickory Smoked Ham and Bean Soup recipe is now finished.

    Time to taste the results.
