Creamy Potato Soups

For a delicious and creamy soup you have to start at the base. What do we add to make the creamiest potato soup? Flour? Cornstarch? Milk? Nope, nope and more nope. Heavy Cream will make the creamiest soup.

Since we are using heavy cream in this creamy potato soup we would normally want to cook down the stock a little bit to make it a bit stronger and to keep the base nice and flavorful but with the other ingredients it's not needed.

Here's another great creamy potato soup that will keep your mouth full and your eyes open wide.

This potato soup uses a light Roux for a different kind of creaminess. Roux is made by slowly heating a fat like lard, vegetable oil or butter with flour while slowly stirring. This gets rid of the raw taste of the flour and lumps while providing you with a thickener.

Baked Potato Soup Recipe

Baked potato soup is a very popular soup. It normally consists of bacon, cheddar cheese and sour cream, the sour cream is optional.

Baked potato soup is very rich and usually creamy. It has plenty of reason to be so popular, it's a very good soup and I'm happy to have it on my popular potato soup page. With this baked potato soup recipe we incorporate organically grown pre-baked potatoes, green onions, butter and more ingredients for another great variation of this soup.

Yet another variation of this soup that adds a bit of different taste, in a good way, with the addition of Velveeta cheese, Pepperjack, carrots and celery is loaded baked potato soup.

Cream of Potato Soup

Cream of potato soup is created quite a few different ways, with cream, flour/roux, or with a puree. Although cream of potato soup is usually partially or totally pureed, sometimes you will find a recipe that isn't because they like the chunks of potato.

This cream of potato soup recipe is partially pureed, just the way I like it, with a small amount of cream, thyme, sea salt and a few more ingredients.

Another version of these soup recipes, not quite as popular but still good nonetheless is cream of potato bacon soup. It uses instant potatoes and half-&-half with cubed potatoes and bacon to create a different kind of texture that's a bit more hearty.
