I like the recipe above but I would consider adding some bacon for flavor. I have had ham and bean soup with bacon before and it just adds a little extra taste to the ham flavoring. I would also consider adding some dark kidney beans. I have had bean soup that is darker in coloring and with several different kinds of beans.
